Bete Family Inducted into Western Mass Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame

This past June, the Bete family was announced as one of the 2003 inductees to the Western Massachusetts Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame.

The Western Massachusetts Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame, located at the Springfield Enterprise Center in the Springfield Technical Community College Technology Park, was established in October 2000. While induction recognizes success in business, it also acknowledges creativity, innovation, persistence, and the acts of giving back to the community and creating opportunities for others' success.

Channing L. Bete Sr., Channing L. Bete Jr., Michael G. Bete

Michael Bete, third-generation CEO of the firm, said the company has succeeded by keeping its focus on producing educational materials that are helpful to people. "We've been true to our mission of strengthening individuals, families, and communities by reinforcing healthy behaviors and positive social values."

The formal induction took place on October 9, 2003. The banquet that followed the ceremony was attended by more than 500 area business leaders. Proceeds from the banquet are used to support young entrepreneurs in western Massachusetts through programs including YES! (Young Entrepreneurial Scholars) and the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts, a student business incubator.

The other 2003 inductees were: Samuel Bowles, founder of the daily Springfield Republican; the Daniel F. O'Connell family, of Daniel O'Connell's Sons, Inc.; Milton Bradley, founder of Milton Bradley Company, now Hasbro, Inc.; and the Hannoush family, owners of Hannoush Jewelers.
